Questions

Is Pow Pow free?

Yes. Snow reports, Pow Ratings, forecasts and search for any resort are free, with no account. Pow Pro adds Powder Alerts, a 14-day outlook, webcams in the app, widgets and the Unhinged headlines.

Is there an iPhone app?

Not yet. Pow Pow is Android-only for now; the snow reports on this site work on any phone.

Where does the data come from?

Forecasts from Open-Meteo, base depth from USDA SNOTEL in the US, webcams from Windy. The Pow Rating, snow quality and headlines are our own read of that data.

Does Pow Pow know if the lifts are open?

No. There's no free, reliable lift feed, so we infer the season from the calendar and the snowpack and say so. Check the resort before you drive.

What is the Pow Rating?

A 1–5 score from fresh snowfall and temperature, with a bonus for multi-day storms. 5 means call in sick.
